A Pecan Trail student (a PT student) shared with us that the word "accePTance" has the letters PT in the word. This was a FIFTH grade student. He gets that while “PT” is at the heart of “accePTance”, “accePTance” is at the heart of what PT is all about. This child has no idea how much this statement has impacted me. AccePTing ... responsibility, mistakes, differences, ourselves, possibilities, challenges and so much more. This is whoooo we strive to be as owls.
A 6th grader wrote a beautiful poem about her dad. She was real, honest and open. Her words were powerful. After her dad received the poem, he wrote one too.
Lord knows that I Love You to the Moon and
Lord knows that I enjoy every time that I’m
able to hear your voice
on the phone and every time
that I’m able to spend those
precious two hours with you during
Lord knows that my questions may sound the same
to you, but deep within me I’m
receiving answers that help me get
to know the beautiful and smart
young lady that carries my last name.
Lord knows that I’ve been gone a very long time
And only He knows how much longer
But every night and day I pray
to feel and know the love that
I have for you through the cards
that I send, the letters that I
write and the words
that I say.
Lord knows that I miss you and that I long
to spend quality time
With hopes of catching up
on all of the days, weeks, months
and years that I’ve
Lord knows that something went wrong because
of the choices that I made
which has caused me to be separated
from you, which I regret.
Lord knows that I’ve also made some good choices
which have led to some
Lord knows that one of the best choices that I
ever made was picking a chubby,
Beautiful and crying baby up
out of her car seat … and
looking into her eyes … and
it was at that moment, which is
and has been one of the best
moments of my life, I smiled
and said … “Hey Baby Girl”
Whom the Lord knows that I Love
To the Moon and Back, Because
… I’m Your Daddy
and I will Always Love You
No Matter Where I’m At.
As you can see in his response to her, their journey is one of accePTance … accePTing circumstances, grace and each other. I find inspiration in their journey and in their words and hope PT can reflect the kind of accePTance they practice.
So many people continue to teach us the importance of “accePTance”. Stay tuned as we share more examples. We have a student who started a “No One Sits Alone” club. She did this on her own. Her inspirational story is coming up. #accePTingOthers
I keep asking myself, how have I been blessed to work with inspirational students, families and colleagues? All I can do is thank God.
